Prevent Elderly People from Losing Their Hearing Aids

by Neil Bauman, Ph.D.

A lady explained:

I am a Social Service Director at a healthcare facility. I work with elderly people and continually run into the problem of resident’s losing their hearing aids. I was curious as to whether there are any devices or adaptations that are being sold to secure hearing aids to clothes or glasses.

You bet. Mostly, they are used to keep small children from taking out and losing their hearing aids, but they work well for adults too.

One such commercial product is Ear Gear.

Another commercial product is Safe-N-Sound.

So now you have two solutions to try. See which works the best for any given person.

Dear Sarah, I hope you don’t think I’m being pushy. But I remembered that Albert had a coiled plastic necklace that he could attach to his aids. So even when he took them out, they were still on his person. Last evening, I introduced your mom to bff Joe, who has a sister with CP. At the time, your mom’s big problem was hanging on to her keys, and I remembered that Joe’s sister keeps hers on a coiled bracelet. He said it works for sister Toni, and he thinks he got it at Dorn’s downtown. So next time I go to the Senior Center, I’ll look for both aids. My treat–don’t want your mom to go thru any more stress than she has to.

    Laughingly yours, sj

I Have been wearing a behind the ear hearing aid for many years now and have lost quite a few during this time, then one day a friend of mine told me about a company called hear ear who supply a hearing aid security clip, I would have no hesitation to recommend this product to my fellow hard of hearing as it has kept my hearing aid with me at all times since purchase, even when out enjoying my morning jog which has cost me 2 hearing aids the hear ear clip has worked wonders. And all for only £9.95 thanks Hear Ear

In addition to the products mentioned above, there is a product called Safety Aid® which attaches a hearing aid to a pierced earring. Go to http://www.hasafetyaid.com for more information.

I’ve worked in mane seniors’ homes and would highly recommend Ear Gear. You can get colourful ones so they’re easy to spot in bedsheets or on the floor.

My mom lost two pairs of hearing aids.
Now she uses a pouch sold on Etsy called It’s Hear. She loves it!

"The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life [which also includes perfect hearing] through Jesus Christ our Lord." [Romans 6:23]

"But know this, in the last days perilous times will come" [2 Timothy 3:1]. "For there will be famines, pestilences, and [severe] earthquakes in various places" [Matthew 24:7], "distress of nations, the sea and the waves roaring"—tsunamis, hurricanes—Luke 21:25, but this is good news if you have put your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, for "when these things begin to happen, lift up your heads [and rejoice] because your redemption draws near" [Luke 21:28].
