- Made to last "It's built like a tank!"
- In comparing it to another loop amplifier, one enthusiastic
customer declared, "The Univox wins hands down. The Univox has far
better physical construction and design."
- Has two inputs so you can listen to two different inputs at the

Basic Univox 2A™ System
only $179.00
|
- The basic system includes the Univox 2A™ loop amplifier, A/C
power adapter and audio patch cord.
Note 1: In order
to use a room loop (or loop pad) you must have hearing aids equipped
with telecoils or use an induction loop receiver.

the Univox 2A™ in a motor vehicle, you need a power adapter (not
included). Go to any Radio Shack store and get their 12 VDC Car

For home use, the Univox 2A is typically the model of choice. However, there
are three larger loop amplifiers for larger rooms/applications. To order any of
these loop amplifiers, click on the model number of the loop amplifier you want to
order.
* The maximum length of wire in the loop varies depending whether the room is
a square (1st number) or a long rectangle (2nd number). This gives you an idea
of approximately how much wire you might need depending on the room shape. The
critical thing is the number of square feet the loop encompasses, not the actual
length of the loop wire.
** The Univox PLS-900 is a higher powered version of the PLS-700. You may
want to use it when you need a stronger signal to overcome a lot of metal near
the loop, e.g. rebar in the floor, metal studs, etc.
Here are the technical specifications
and installation guides for each of the above Univox loop amplifiers.
If you are installing a loop system in a public building, here are a
couple of signs you can print
indicating that an audio loop system is installed.
Output Devices:
|
In addition to the basic system, you will also need an
output loop of some kind. (The basic system does not include an
output loop.)
You have two choices:
|
1. Personal Loop Pad
Loop Pad (Loop Pad-1) $35.95 (if you just want to hear from your
favorite chair or in your car)
The loop pad is the easiest way to loop your favorite chair—just place
it under the chair or under the cushion. It has a 32 foot cord so it
will reach just about anywhere you want it to. The Loop Pad is also
ideal for looping your car—just place it under your car seat. The Loop
Pad plugs into a special jack in the back of the Univox 2A™ amplifier.
You can use the Loop Pad and a room loop at the same time.
The Loop Pad measures 15.75" x 15.75" and comes with a 32 foot (10 m)
cord. |

2. Room Loop
The basic system does not include the wire for a room loop
since it is cheaper for you to get it yourself at any Radio Shack store
in a length that fits your needs. (See below.)
In order to wire a room, part of your house or a meeting area you will
need a length of insulated wire. If you are hooking up to the Univox 2A,
use 18 gauge wire. (If you are hooking up to one of the larger Univox-PLS
units, use this chart of wire sizes
to determine the correct wire size for the loop amplifier and size of
loop you are using.) The maximum
perimeter you can loop is about 80 - 100 feet (depending on the room
shape) with the Univox
2A™. You can use either a single loop or double loop. I like to use a
double loop using Radio Shack's speaker wire (Part No. 278-1104 $13.99
for 100 feet (30 m) or Part No. 278-008 $7.99 for 60 feet (18 m).

Input Devices:
In addition to the basic system, you will also need an input device
of some kind.
You have two choices:
|
1. Microphone
Input
Lapel Microphone (MIC 13C), 10 foot cord $38.00
|
If you want to use the Univox 2A™ loop system to listen to people live,
you will need a microphone to input the sound into the loop system. The
lapel microphone clips to your clothes just below your chin which gives
beautiful clear sound. The 10 foot cord allows the speaker some freedom
of movement.
To give the speaker complete freedom to move up to 200 feet away,
instead of using this hard wired microphone, you can purchase Radio
Shack's FM Wireless Microphone system (Part No. 32-1258 $79.99) and
connect it to the Univox 2A™ amplifier via a patch cord (Part No.
42-2433 $4.99). Since this patch cord has a mono plug and the Univox
jack is stereo, use an adapter (Part No. 274-374 $2.99) between the
Univox and the patch cord. |

2. Direct Input
If you are hooking your loop system into your TV, VCR, radio or stereo,
as long as these devices have standard audio outputs (RCA jacks), you do
not need to buy anything else. Use the included audio patch cord.

"I
am really sold on the Univox 2ATM and would definitely recommend it as the
first choice for anyone interested in obtaining a loop amplifier for
home or portable use."— D. Bishop
"Thank you very much for
prompt delivery of your Univox 2A room loop system to me which I
received this afternoon. I have already hooked this system to my TV
without any problems, and it worked wonderfully."—H. H.
"I want to tell you my experience with the Univox 2A. My wife
has exceptionally good hearing and in the past, we always
had a problem. Either the TV sound was too low for me, or
too loud for her. Sometimes it really caused some rather
heated discussions. Last night was the first trial of the
Univox 2A. I can't tell you how happy we both are! So thanks to
the Univox, we don't see any more problems for us."—E. B.
"The Univox 2A arrived today and after quickly setting it up, I
was completely amazed at how beautifully it worked. My wife is
delighted, has stopped using ear plugs ( because of our loud TV),
and thinks we can make it through another 59 years."—A. G.
"I am happy to tell you my husband went to
my dads and got the Univox 2A all hooked up right. It works perfect!
Daddy is so pleased. It is nice to know he can enjoy the news
and his favorite shows now."—R. W.
A church installed a new loop system using the large Univox PLS-700
loop amplifier. The first Sunday it was operational, a hard of
hearing man stood up and told the congregation, "Today for the first time in 30
years I was able to hear everything that was said. It's wonderful!"—Bob
R.
After they installed a loop system in their church, a pastor
wrote, "Last night we showed the Jesus film for Good Friday
and J____ came up to me crying. She said, 'That was the
first film I have ever heard in my life.' Wow, was it ever
worth it to see and hear that."—J. S.
