Silent Call Signature Series—The Latest in
Ultra-reliable General Purpose Alerting Systems!
For more background on Alerting Systems in general and what you need to look for in them
before purchasing one, if you haven't already done so, read our articles
Give Yourself the "Gift of Life"—Alerting
Systems That Really Work! and Fire
Safety for People with Hearing Loss.
Note: Silent Call has two series of alerting systems, their original 316 Mhz system
(units are all white except pagers are black) and their new 416 Mhz Signature Series (units are all
black). These two systems are incompatible with each other so you have to stick
with either one or the other. You cannot mix and match modules. It just won't
work.
If you have the original Silent Call series (white modules except for
black pagers), and want to add modules to it, go to the
original series page. If you want the new Signature Series (black
units), see below.
Silent Call systems are not cheap—but when your life is at stake, you want reliability, and
that is where Silent Call systems excel. They are also the best broad-based system
available with many different modules to alert you to many different things. You are not wasting your
money when you get a Silent Call system!
Signature Series Silent Call Systems—Transmitters and Receivers
There are two basic parts to any Silent Call system. First you need one or
more transmitters (doorbell, smoke detector, baby crier, etc.) to provide the alerting signal. Second you need one or more
receivers to alert you when one of your warning transmitters activates.
The transmitters are wireless, so you don't have to worry about tearing the
house apart hooking wires up all over the place. However, since the transmitters run off batteries, you
do need to have a
regular program of replacing the batteries every so often so the transmitters
don't "die" at an importune time.
There is no limit to the number of transmitters or receivers you can use in
one system. You choose the specific transmitters and receivers you need to fit
your particular situation.
When a transmitter activates, it sends out a digitally coded signal that is
received by any Silent Call
receiver within range (up to 2,000 feet). This signal contains a
user-selected unique address and a function code such as Fire, Sound, Door,
Telephone, etc. Any receiver within range that is set to the same address as the
transmitter will activate when it receives the signal. The receivers will activate and indicate which function activated them.
| Receivers There are
currently
two receivers in the Silent Call Signature Series—the
Sidekick II bedside clock receiver for your
bedrooms, and
the Wristwatch receiver to wear on your person (but
it can double as a bedroom receiver with the addition of the bed
vibrator). You can have as many receivers as
you want, but you need at least one.

Transmitters
There are a number of different transmitters that can alert you. You can
have as many different kinds of transmitters as you want, and as many of
each as you think necessary, but you need at least one transmitter. For example, you may want 2 or 3 doorbell transmitters to
cover each door in your house. You may want a smoke detector transmitter in every room so
you may need 5 or 6 or more in the typical house. If you want to
help burglar-proof your house, you will need several door/window access
transmitters. A nice thing about the Silent Call system is that you
can start small with one or two transmitters, and then add transmitters
later as you have the need and the means to do so. |
